Dynamics GP…When is the best time to Implement the Fixed Assets module?

Posted Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

For Dynamics GP users out there that have the Fixed Assets module and have never implemented it are you still using excel spreadsheets month after month to calculate depreciation and amortization?  Manually creating journal entries to enter into Dynamics GP?   Using another application for calculations?

The Dynamics GP Fixed Assets module can do it all for you with a greater variety of options than that of excel spreadsheets or other applications.  Some of the additional advantages are separate Fixed Assets calendar from that of your company’s fiscal calendar.  This calendar can be the same as your fiscal calendar or the periods can differ.  This module can track everything from location, maintenance, assign employees to fixed assets, additional fields for special use, have multiple corporate and tax books.  Flow transactions from Purchase Order Processing or Payables Management modules to the Fixed Assets module and that is just scratching the surface to what the Dynamics GP Fixed Assets module can do for you.

For a “Basics” overview of the Fixed Assets module and Analysis Cubes for Fixed Assets sign up and attend the I.B.I.S, Inc. free webinars at:  http://demand.dynamicscare.com/?elq_mid=385&elq_cid=8731&elqPURLPage=76&elq=ae1ea4205920439c88a09611514621d0  There is an old saying, “if you feed a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish…you feed him for life.”    These webinars offer you insightful knowledge and information adding value to you personally and to your company.  They are well worth the time.

So, when is the best time to implement the Fixed Assets module?  Now.   Especially for Calendar Year companies.  Although you can implement Fixed Assets at any time no matter if you are calendar or fiscal year company, it is actually easier to compile the data for a clean cut off at year end for calendar year companies by bringing beginning Fixed Asset balances in for January 1.   Implementing in other periods than year end requires additional calculation of Year to Date and Life to Date accumulations.   This process can be time consuming that is why we are giving you the heads up now to save you time and any additional work if you decide to implement the Dynamics GP Fixed Asset module for the 2010 calendar year.
