Want to know how to edit Dynamics CRM 2011 records from inside of Microsoft Excel?

Posted June 10th, 2011 / No Comments

In the 2011 version of Dynamics CRM, you can! There’s a new feature in the newest version of Dynamics CRM that allows you to export records to Microsoft Excel, save the file, make modifications, and then reimport.

In the 4.0 version, you can import into CRM and update records as long as you have what’s called the record GUID as part of the spreadsheet. However, finding that and applying it properly to the spreadsheet is another story. The new CRM features incorporates this update through Excel functionality natively. This is a great way to update a lot of data by using the features provided through Excel that are not available to you through Dynamics CRM. It’s also a huge timesaver if you’re updating more than 250 records at a time.

Here’s a post on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Team Blog that runs through the process and how to accomplish this.

Dynamics CRM 2011 Basics: Static vs. Dynamic Marketing Lists

Posted June 3rd, 2011 / No Comments

In previous versions of Dynamics CRM, Marketing Lists were static, meaning you added members based upon certain criteria – and that was it. You could remove the members that were currently members of the list, but new members wouldn’t be added on a dynamic basis, even if they met the same criteria. This was also frustrating for those who wanted to view the criteria that had been used in the first place – there’s no way to check and see why these people ended up in the Marketing List to begin with.

Well fret no more – Dynamics CRM 2011 brings you the new and improved dynamic Marketing List. This beefed up Marketing List capability allows you to set your criteria as soon as you create the list – and that’s it. Members will be added and removed automatically by the system based upon whether or not they meet the criteria. And viewing the currently used criteria is just a matter of clicking “Manage Members” on the UI Ribbon.

This new dynamic Marketing List capability is a definite step up for the Marketing functionality inside of Dynamics CRM. It provides a low maintenance (almost maintenance free!) task for anyone managing a Marketing List inside of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.
