For those of you out there who know and “love” Microsoft’s’ Product Builder (PB), there’s now a new alternative.
It does basically the same thing as PB, but it’s got a new name and a new look. Surprise! Surprise!

Just like PB, Microsoft says that you do not need developer skills to build a Configurator Model, but BEWARE! Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t Be Afraid of Too Many Coverage Groups

Posted November 23rd, 2011 / No Comments

In early stages of most implementations, companies tend to try to keep things simple. With all that needs to be done in a new system implementation, sometimes the more complex subject matter gets pushed to “phase 2” or users are left to handle data and difficult situations some other way. Use of Coverage Groups in Master Planning is a good example of this.

Quickly and Easily Creating New Factboxes in AX 2012

Posted November 22nd, 2011 / No Comments

In AX 2012, most forms have at least one “factbox” on the right side of the form.  They will most often contain information pertaining to the highlighted record.  But often times, we would like to see other or more information in one of these boxes.  I’m going to use an example to explain a fairly straight forward way to create a new factbox (or “part”) that doesn’t require too much technical knowledge. Direct Deliveries in AX 2012

Posted November 14th, 2011 / No Comments

To create a direct delivery, you’ll first need a fully created sales order.  This sales order should have at least one item on it that will be shipped directly from the vendor to the customer that is on the sales order.  The direct delivery function will create a purchase order that is tied to the sales order and the two will be updated simultaneously.  So when one order is updated (received or shipped), the corresponding order is also updated to match.  This way, your inventory will not have the potential to show the item(s) that are being direct delivered. Processing Return Orders in AX 2012

Posted November 9th, 2011 / No Comments

This functionality is significantly different from AX 2009 to AX 2012.  In AX 2009, a sales order form was used to designate a return order and an RMA could be entered against it, if required.  In AX 2012, there is functionality specific to return orders.

Return orders are accessed through the Sales & Marketing module > Common > Return orders.  Read the rest of this entry »

Product Masters in AX 2012

Posted October 31st, 2011 / No Comments

In AX 2012, the familiar “Item Details” form is no longer present.  It has been replaced by similar interfaces and the functionality and terminology has been changed.  The change in functionality seems to primarily give the users the ability to share items across different companies (or legal entities).  The new functionality takes a bit longer to understand, but is a big help when sharing items across multiple companies.  It also helps create a much easier setup for intercompany transactions since item data is now shared rather than linked through a “company item”. Capable to Promise (or CTP to the friends of AX2012)

Posted October 14th, 2011 / 2 Comments

Didn’t this used to be called ATP in a former existence?
Well, before AX2012 we only had ATP, which did some funky things….some good some not so good, and now, in AX2012 we ‘ve got CTP!
What’s the difference I hear you say?
Not a lot!
ATP looks at what material is available to promise. Read the rest of this entry »
