I know the Microsoft documentation suggests only beginning with one plan when going live and this is typically a static plan but beware. Over time – depending on how intense you run Master Planning – this will more than likely become an issue. The InventSumLogTTS is a log file, used in Master Planning, that stores transaction records. This log file is cleared when a Dynamic plan is assigned on the Master Planning parameters and the plan run. If this file is left to its own, it will continue to grow and possibly become a space issue.
In the Master Planning parameters (Master Planning > Setup > Master planning parameters), the Current dynamic master plan must indicate a Dynamic master plan. The dynamic plan is setup in the Master planning > Setup > Plans > Master Plans form and can have the same setup as the static plan – but it must be a unique plan. Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks to the magic of GoGo Wireless, I can drop a quick post to let you know that I (and a substantial portion of the sales and management team of IBIS) are on our way to Convergence 2012 in Houston. I’ll post periodically during the conference but am leaving the blow-by-blow reporting to my more worthy peers. We’re going to be all over the conference (look for the IBIS blue and white button down shirt), exhibiting at booth 1309, and are hosting our customer party at Irma’s Southwest grill on Tuesday night at 6:45pm.
Looking forward to seeing your all there!
PS: A quick reminder: Do Not Dance at Convergence!

The Organization Model in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 supports creating the hierarchical structures that enable the cycle of performance improvement. The Organization Model framework represents internal control, data security access and performance reporting structures designed to divide responsibility for human and operations resources and work processes. We will explore the concepts introduced with the Organization Model in AX 2012.

The concept of Agile development has been around for years, driven by the need to drive software development projects with more flexibility and with a faster time-to-feature-release cycle. In the last 12 months, we’ve seen an increase in articles and interest in applying Agile development methodologies to business intelligence project – a quick Bing search on the term “Agile BI” shows almost 9.2 million hits.

In AX 2012 resources and resource groups have been created to replace work centers and work center groups. To me, this is avery welcomed change along with the improvements that go along with it. When creating a route, you’ll now be given options to assign applicable resources to an operation on the route. There are more options than what will be discussed in this blog, but the ones we’ll look at here are assigning resources by Resource Type, Resource Group, Resource, and Capability. Each of these options provide different ways of assigning a resource to an operation and are known as “Requirement types”.

Purpose: The purpose of the task recorder is to aide in the documenting processes. This documentation can then provide the step by step instruction for completion of the process as required. Once generated and verified, can be accessed online by users or provided as a hardcopy for work instructions.
Note: The task recorder can and should also be used to record a process issue for use in the ability to re-create an issue for debug. Read the rest of this entry »

What would you use one for?
Well; Microsoft Dynamics AX2012 has a really cool feature which represents a Heijunka Planning Board, except that in AX2012 it’s called the Kanban Schedule Board.
Lean Schedule Groups are designed to allow you to see products or groups of products easily recognizable by colour, in the Kanban Schedule Board. So for folks who can recognize colours easily, it’s an added bonus. Read the rest of this entry »
