Didn’t this used to be called ATP in a former existence?
Well, before AX2012 we only had ATP, which did some funky things….some good some not so good, and now, in AX2012 we ‘ve got CTP!
What’s the difference I hear you say?

With AX 2009, the TQM (Total Quality Management) module was added by acquisition. What is “total quality management”? Why would anyone desire less than “total” quality management? Recently I’ve been working through the W3G product for warehouse management that McLane offers with Dynamics AX 2009. The warehouse product adds four additional modules within the Dynamics AX client. In the Scheduling and Receiving module, there are some great new reports that are useful. The ones I’ll focus on today can help you with put-aways, planning truck space based on TixHi measurements, and some to help out supervisory personnel. The total cost allocation methodology is new for co-products in AX 2012. This is a way to calculate the cost between a main formula item and the related co-products. In the previous version, the cost allocation may have needed to be reviewed for each batch order if there was a requirement that the cost allocation be dynamic based on the quantity reported as finished. This version should eliminate that need. When using TCA (total cost allocation), the cost will be calculated based on a weighted average of the primary item (or formula item) and the co-product(s) that are actually reported as finished. To paraphrase Walter from The Big Lebowski, “This is not ‘Nam. This is business. There are rules.” And these rules continue to get more complex in our post-Enron state. Thankfully, the improvements made in Dynamics AX 2012 have aimed to ease the difficulty of setting up your ERP solution to follow these rules. The changes made to the security model in AX 2012 are one shining example of this. Another area where Microsoft has strived to lessen the burden is simplifying the Workflow implementation process. Implementing Workflow in AX 2012 ensures that your businesses processes will be consistent.
