Think about a car production plant, where a car will be assembled along a facility that has its value adding processes in sequence. Traditional manufacturing is more focused around “push”; pushing products through in anticipation of demand, rather than being pulled smoothly in response to demand, and some production facilities will be laid out in an haphazard fashion as new machines get added over time, they get slotted into a spare corner, built in waste!
