Posted October 14th, 2011 / No Comments

With AX 2009, the TQM (Total Quality Management) module was added by acquisition. What is “total quality management”? Why would anyone desire less than “total” quality management? Do we seek partial quality management, i.e. is “OK” the standard? Could be depends on the goal, right? We can come back to this later. Read the rest of this entry »

A Nugget in the Fluff… Inventory to Fixed Assets In Dynamics AX 2009

Posted September 9th, 2011 / No Comments

This past Sunday afternoon, while recovering from Saturday’s festivities, I was relaxing with the dog and kids at a local park, when I noticed another dad scanning the playground with a metal detector.  Although initially skeptical, he was adding to his collection on a regular basis, which I thought was odd, as this was a new park.  After a while, I approached him to see what he had found, and was completely astonished with the pile of loot.  In about an hour’s time, he had managed to find several antique coins, what looked like bullets from the War Between the States, and some fairly nice looking pieces of jewelry. Posted September 8th, 2011 / No Comments

While recently trying to meddle in Management Reporter, to keep myself up to date, I ran across the following error. “Cannot connect to the Management Reporter Server. Do you want to specify a different server address?” It’s a very annoying error message if I say so myself. Everything was installed properly and I just could not figure out why this was happening…

The New Social Network… Dimension Linking in Dynamics AX 2009

Posted August 24th, 2011 / No Comments

My apologies in advance for the Z-Borg reference, but one of the most revolutionary paradigm changes in the last half century is the rise of the social network.  Such a simple idea has had a profound impact on the lives of millions, if not billions, and now allows those of us who can stomach following popular trends to connect with people who would have otherwise been lost in the masses.  By allowing yourself to be pulled into the herd, you will become part of a network that will link you to past acquaintances, industry colleagues, like minded hobbyists, and people with cast iron cookware fetishes like myself.  The power of the network is almost unimaginable, and for those who know how to use it, a gold mine without limits.  Read the rest of this entry »

Addressing Addresses- Address Functionality Tips in Dynamics 2009

Posted August 19th, 2011 / No Comments

During a recent session of testing, a problem became apparent when addresses weren’t printing on certain documents.  It was like the addresses didn’t know where they were supposed to be. Once realized, our question devolved to a level where we wanted to see where addresses are entered, how to point an address to the proper document, and how to turn on/off address functionality for documents. New Tools for Your Box – Credit Notes without Inventory Impact

Posted August 12th, 2011 / No Comments

Earlier this week, while stuck in traffic, I received a call from one of my favorite customers regarding some issues she was experiencing with credit notes in Dynamics AX 2009. Like trying to work on a classic American car with metric wrenches, she was finding that the standard credit note functionality just wasn’t the fit she was expecting. She was in need of some specialty tools to meet her needs. Read the rest of this entry »
